Description
Clare Mumford and Gail Hebson jointly organised a session for the ESRC Festival of Social Science, in November 2018, with funding from the ESRC. The session, ‘A Perfect Job Match: using social science to understand job quality’ was delivered to Year 9 pupils (age 13/14) at a school in Manchester in association with the school’s careers adviser. It proved to be very popular and attracted more pupils than we originally planned for. By offering pupils access to research findings, and working through the implications of the research in real-life terms, the event helped to expand, challenge or confirm pupils' thoughts and assumptions about future career choices and to situate their own choices in the context of developments in the wider labour market.
