Description

Myself and colleagues were invited to the annual meeting to provide information pertaining to scientific literature on the risks associated with sodium valproate exposure in utero. This meeting was also attended Members of Parliament as well as members of patient groups and the MHRA. Discussions were held about the research evidence and clinical management. A number action points were created surrounding what the government could do to reduce the number of children exposed to teratogens like sodium valproate, the types of support that child who have been affected will require and the critical need for improved preconceptual counselling for women who require medical treatment during pregnancy.
