It is hard to overestimate the importance of Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine in the history of medicine. This magnum opus exercised an enormous influence on the development of medical theory and practice in both East and West and was taught in universities worldwide up to the 19th century. The John Rylands library hosts seven manuscripts that relate to the Canon, including its full-text spread over four manuscripts. These manuscripts are:

Arabic MS323 Canon, Book I The celebrated medical treatise of Avicenna (d. 1037)
Arabic MS324 Canon, Book II
Arabic MS325 Canon, Book III
Arabic MS326 Canon, Books IV and V
Arabic MS327 The Compendium of Avicenna’s Medical Canon A medical treatise excerpted from Avicenna’s Canon
Arabic MS328 The Compendium of Avicenna’s Medical Canon A second copy of the previous medical treatise
Arabic MS329 The Sufficient in the interpretation of the Mūjiz A commentary on the work contained in the two preceding manuscripts.
