Description

The group is managed by Gail Millin-Chalabi (GIS and EO Specialist/Researcher) in collaboration with Polyanna Bispo (Senior Lecturer in EO) and Donna Sherman (Curator of Maps). GISMEO objectives are to:

- Signpost staff and students to cloud-based geospatial services, desktop geospatial software and field-based mapping resources for use in their research.
- Provide guidance and training resources in GIS, Mapping and Earth Observation.
- Provide guidance and training for a variety of different map collections and digital geospatial data archives.
- Facilitate collaboration between research groups actively engaged in geospatial technologies across the university to enable interdisciplinary research.
- Facilitate external collaborations with industry, NGOs, government organisation and the commercial sector.
- Promote events both internal and externally related to GIS, Mapping and EO.
- Highlight career development opportunities in the geospatial sector.
- Signpost to where staff and students can obtain further internal help and assistance depending on their faculty.
- Promote the use of new geospatial methods such as deep learning and AI and encourage the use of geospatial standards for enhancing interoperability of analysis outputs.
