Description
The results of December's general election show the continuing importance of support for Brexit in Britain, and social media platforms have been implicated in this since the referendum campaign. But what kind of content is being shared in the pro-Brexit Facebook sphere and why does it appeal to people? I followed 15 Brexiteers on Facebook and spoke to them at length about their views on social media and politics. This talk will explore the variety of narratives, both old and new, drawn upon by this group to support their stances. Doing so reveals an overarching narrative of a global left-wing agenda for societal change, orchestrated behind closed doors, to the detriment of ordinary, good people like 'us'.
