Invited keynote for the 48th Marion Woodward lecture (2016), School of Nursing, University of British Columbia, Canada. This was the first time an overseas speaker had been invited to give this prestigious lecture. The event was filmed and is available on the UBC website. The three day stay at the School of Nursing, UBC, also included other dissemination opportunities such as: being a panel member on a ‘Transformative Practices in Long-Term Care’ symposium [with Dr. Alison Phinney (Professor of Nursing, UBC), Jo-Ann Tait (Operations Leader of the Providence Elder Care Program), Nancy Gault (Provincial Office of Seniors’ Advocate) and Sarah Leavitt (author of the book Tangled)]; attending a morning with younger people with dementia who were part of Paul’s Club, a not-for-profit support group; being part of a workshop on ‘Engaging People with Dementia in Research: Pushing the Envelope’ at the Centre for Research on Personhood at UBC; and having dedicated individual and group time with various PhD and Master’s students in dementia studies.
