Independent Expert 'Fellowship' Assessor for the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO)The European Academy is an international organisation that provides support and guidance to help advance Optometry, develop the scientific knowledge base and support and promote lifelong learning for Optometrists and Vision Scientists involved in visual healthcare across Europe. Fellowship is awarded to those who have made a significant contribution to the practice of Optometry (at a national/international level), through demonstration of excellence and/or innovation in one or more of the following categories: Research, Education, Clinical Practice, Professional Advancement or Wider Management of Visual Healthcare. In my role as an Independent Expert Assessor, I perform the following key duties:*Review each candidate’s achievements and the impact/potential impact of these achievements on the practice of Optometry, *Consider the candidate’s reflection on what they have learnt from their achievements and the difference this has made to their own work,*Scrutinise the candidate’s supporting evidence (which includes peer-reviewed scientific papers; book contributions; conference presentations (posters & papers); clinical case study reports; correspondence from patients; contributions to Optometric policy-making; esteemed positions of office and/or positions within educational institutions) and consider the value it adds, *Consider the extent of dissemination of the achievement, in terms of its influence on the practice of Optometry (nationally or internationally), *Liaise with the candidate’s referees to verify the authenticity of the application
