Sexual Health practitioners can play a key role in identifying Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) and increasing women’s access to support. The IRIS Advise programme was therefore designed to include staff training, patient information materials, an enquiry prompt in the electronic patient record and a simple referral pathway to specialist DVA advocate. It has been piloted in Bristol and East London and an evaluation found that is feasible and acceptable to develop and implement the IRIS ADViSE training and referral package for sexual health clinics. In Greater Manchester the concept is being expanded to include sexual violence (including historical sexual abuse) as well as DVA. The planned initiative will also encompass men as well as women victims/survivors.
