Description
“Green” electronics is an emerging field of research which aims to manufacture electronic devices and sensors in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. Usually, the involved materials are biocompatible, biodegradable and non-toxic. Also, they can be processed using simple additive manufacturing processes such as printing on unconventional substrates (e.g. plastic, textile, paper, etc.). IEC Technical Committee 119 – “Printed Electronics” is responsible for standardization of terminology, materials, processes, equipment, products and health / safety / sustainability in the field of printed electronics. Since the objectives of the "Atoms to Devices" and “Biomedical Materials” research areas at the Henry Royce Institute are to accelerate the discovery, manufacture and translation of materials, the collaboration between the Henry Royce Institute and IEC TC 119 experts has a high potential to enhance the UK’s position as an international leader in the fields of printable materials and biomedical devices and systems.
