    Description

As an expansion to the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology’s “Inspiring Language Communities” initiative, a partnership was formed with the Science and Industry Museum through the Manchester Science Festival. For this, the expertise gained through the MIB’s Programme for Public Engagement with Research and Researchers was shared to allow the museum to attract audiences from different linguistic communities from across Greater Manchester. As a pilot, a former MIB outreach volunteer, Dr. Ajanta Chakraborty, collaborated with museum staff to allow provision of mixed English/Bengali demonstrations within the popular textiles gallery. It is hoped that continued sharing of best practice with the Science and Industry Museum will allow it to attract a wider section of society through the use of bilingual researchers from the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology and other parts of the University.
