Description
A presentation given for GNET's year-in-review webinar, "2025 in Focus: Emerging Trends, Key Developments, and Outlooks for 2026". My presentation focused on the dynamics of nihilistic and gender-based violent extremism (NVE/GVE), specifically highlighting its appeal in male supremacist communities. I also explored best practices for intervention and response in 2026, including "hopecore" and the white pill as counters to nihilism, opportunities to support and cultivate citizen-led counterspeech online, and the necessity of multi-faceted approaches to NVE beyond solely top-down interventions.
