Description
This talk introduced TAI’s mission of combining academic excellence with regulatory expertise to improve workplace and industrial safety, and highlighted how this approach supports the UK’s transition to hydrogen and low‑carbon energy systems.
The presentation outlined key elements of HSE’s Hydrogen Programme, including risk assessment challenges, material behaviour under hydrogen exposure, leakage and detection issues, human factors, and the implications of hydrogen use across public and industrial environments. Current strategic developments—such as major test facilities, interdisciplinary research platforms, and industry milestone events scheduled for 2026—were also summarised.
The talk additionally set TAI’s work in the wider context of national strategy, referencing HSE’s 2022–2032 plan and future government policy developments. It emphasised TAI’s role in enabling science‑based regulation, supporting industry readiness, delivering specialist training, and contributing to global leadership in hydrogen safety.
