Description

The research in BioEngineered System group (Tirella's group) deals with nano- and micro-scale design, manufacturing, drug delivery and functionalization of biomaterials to mimic tissues’ properties (e.g. breast, prostate); with an emphasis on the interface between (bio)materials and biological matters.

Translational elements of Tirella's group research focus on:
1) design of nanosystems (colloidal, liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles) for controlled drug delivery
2) development of preclinical in vitro models in order to mirror diseased and healthy microenvironment(s).

The group works in lab equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for manufacturing, cell culture and material characterisation instruments.
