Description
Two-week research visit to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (this is a European Union agency) in Stockholm. I was hosted by Public Health Emergency Preparedness Experts within their unit on Country Preparedness Support. During my visit I attended the daily ECDC roundtable meeting to review global surveillance of emergent threats and follow up ongoing threats. I met a wide range of experts and conducted a dozen elite interviews, primarily with ECDC experts in public health emergency preparedness, epidemic intelligence, respiratory infectious disease outbreaks and pandemic influenza. I attended other ECDC events, including the annual 3-day meeting of the National Focal Points for preparedness, response and threat detection from EU member states and EU accession countries. I gave an invited talk at ECDC on radical uncertainty, sociological knowledge and participatory governance (3rd October 2018).
