Description

This was a Social Responsibility UoM funded event celebrating the musical heritage of Bengali folk songs and their significance for community bonding among Bangladeshi migrants to mills and factories in the north-west in the 1960s and 1970s. The songs played a critical role in fostering solidarity and ensuring emotional well-being among displaced populations at the time. Folk songs were sung by talented amateurs in the first half. UoM academics and elderly immigrants provided historical context and analysis of this priceless heritage, in the second.
