The Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review was commissioned by the Department of Health to review what they termed three 'medical disasters'. One of these was prolonged use of the anti epileptic drug sodium valproate despite its significant teratological risk to the foetus both for physical and brain development. Myself and collaborators were asked to submit written evidence to the review and then attended the review committee meeting on the 26th November 2018 to provide oral evidence. The review committee is due to publish its findings in the summer of 2019.
