Thinking Chilean Futures

Activity: Participating in or organising event(s)Organising a conference, workshop, exhibition, performance, inquiry, course etcResearch

Description

Globally, the times we live in urge us to reflect on the role of academic research in the design, co-construction and development of possible futures. In the case of Chile, this global phenomenon intersects with a turbulent local context highlighted by the development of a new constitution; the beginning of a presidential cycle; and the mobilisation of a civil society that is not satisfied with being a secondary actor in its own development process.

Those of us who are part of The Chilean Society at the University of Manchester want to convene current research that addresses past phenomena, analyses current conflicts and can contribute to the collective discussion about the future of Chile. With this purpose in mind, we have organised the International Seminar titled “Thinking Chilean Futures”. We aim to assemble a forum for dissemination and discussion on the work of Chilean researchers working abroad and foreign researchers whose focus is Chile.

In this instance, the call to participate is established around three main themes. These axes are “Thinking about a fair Chile”, “Thinking about an ecological Chile” and “Thinking about a technological Chile”.

The conference will be held in hybrid face-to-face and online mode on the 4th March 2022 at The University of Manchester. We invite participants from a large range of disciplines to submit their proposals (max 500 words). Abstracts will be assessed using the following rubric (Evaluación de abstracts conferencia) and applications will be accepted until 18th February 2022, through the following form http://bit.ly/chileanfutures. A travel bursary will be available for participants.
