A critical reflection on ageing in place: Discussions on life, mortality and how we approach the ageing process.

Press/Media: Blogs and social media

Description

Talking about ‘growing old’ is not a popular topic, talking about death even less so. But, most of us will grow old and all of us will die. Many older people live in poverty, experience loneliness and have poor quality of life. If we continue to defer these unwanted conversations about growing old, we risk increasing inequalities both between age groups and within the older population. This piece discusses the ‘competing discourses’ of ageing and dying and argues for new approaches to bring conversations about ageing and death into academic and policy debates.
