Laura McGhie interviewed Gail Millin-Chalabi regarding the wildfires in Greece. The interview covered the cause of wildfires, whether wildfire activity is increasing, how to stop the spread of wildfires. Gail described a number of methods for managing fuel load such as fire breaks, prescribed burning and re-wetting. Social aspects were discussed which as increasing peoples awareness of wildfire risk. Gail highlighted that last year was the first time in her wildfire research career that UK residents lost their homes to wildfire but then compared to Greece to say this is not uncommon unfortunately. The upward trend of larger wildfires in the UK (30 ha or greater) was also covered which is reported in the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS).
