DescriptionThe Bardon Hill wildfire began on 02/04/25 and was thought to be extinguished at 23:00. However, several new pockets of fire surfaced in the wooded area on the site on 03/04/25. It was reported that in Leicestershire the last rain was 9mm in early March so this part of the country is experiencing drought and dry easterly winds. Six weeks of high pressure in combination with current low Fuel Moisture Content (FMC) of the gorse and grass vegetation present at the site produce ideal conditions for wildfires. The source of ignition has not yet been established.
