Research from the University has been covered by BBC Radio Manchester [no link available]. Scientists led by Prof Stewart Allan have discovered that the brain-blood barrier, which usually prevents drugs entering the brain, can be penetrated by liposomes soon after a stroke. It is hoped this could act as a new delivery system for crucial drugs to treat the effects of a stroke early on.
