BBC RADIO SCOTLAND: Female hikers and climbers

Press/Media: Research

Description

On BBC Radio Scotland [1:19:10], Dr Joanna Taylor was a participant in a discussion around the relatively low numbers of female hikers and climbers coming to the Highlands. Research suggests only a fifth of those coming to the Highlands for outdoor activity are women. Dr Taylor, who helps lead the Women in the Hills network, explained that her research has shown that representation of historical female climbers is much lower than their male counterparts, creating a lack of role-models for young women getting into the activity.
