BBC WORLD SERVICE: The broom challenge

  • Emma Alexander

Press/Media: Expert comment

Description

Emma Alexander, a PhD candidate at the University, was interviewed on the BBC World Service [48:20], on the “broom challenge” sweeping social media. Supposedly, NASA has said that today is the day to stand you brooms on their ends, as the Earth’s gravity will keep them upright. Ms Alexander brushed away the rumours, however, explaining that NASA has said no such thing, but the low centre of mass of a broom means it is indeed possible to balance it on its end.
