Beyond The ‘Incel Attacker’: Media Reporting On Cases Of Misogynist Violence

A resource for CREST's Security Review critiquing the narrative linking cases of male supremacist and misogynist violence to incels alone, highlighting the need to differentiate between 'misogynist incels' and the larger identity of involuntary celibacy; the difficulties in parsing who is definitively an 'incel attacker', and the lack of recognition of the cultural, social, and historical dimensions of male supremacism that extend beyond misogynist incels. I end on three recommendations for responsible reporting.
