Britain, the slave trade, and the royal family

Press/Media: Research

Description

The repurcussion of the transatlantic slave-trade on Britain and the world today are a key feature of my research, notable in the AHRC-funded project "Legacies of the British Slave-trade" and "Crown Engagement in Britain's Emerging Empire". The latter, in particular, received considerable coverage after April 2023 when King Charles issues a statement in support of its research agenda.

The "Legacies" project is a large collaborative project with Edmond Smith (Manchester), William Pettigrew (Lancaster), Nick Radburn (Lancaster), Nick Draper (UCL), James Dawkins (Lancaster), Kimberley Thomas (Manchester), Charmian Mansell (UCL), Lila Chambers (Cambridge) and Michael Bennett (Sheffield). The "Crown Engagement" project was designed by Edmond Smith and Misha Ewen (Bristol) and is being conducted by Camilla de Koning (Manchester).
