For the past two and a half years, the region has been stuck in a gray zone that some describe as “neither war nor peace.” “The war is still here,” says Teklehaymanot Weldemichel, a professor at the University of Manchester and a native of Tigray. “It’s a different kind of war. The uncertainty about what will happen tomorrow forces people to live with a constant sense of war. They see no way out.”
