A team of researchers from the Faculty’s Cellular and Developmental Systems Domain have been awarded £4.6 million from the BBSRC to further research into the extracellular matrix structure that could lead to improved treatments for diseases such as osteoarthritis.
The successful bid was led by Principal Investigator and Domain Director, Professor Karl Kadler, along with Professor Martin Lowe, Professor Qing Jun Meng and Dr Joe Swift from the School of Biological Sciences and Professor Oliver Jensen (Mathematics, FSE) in collaboration with a team from the University of Bristol.
The five year project, ‘Opportunities to modulate extracellular matrix secretion and assembly for long term health’ was one of four UK research projects receiving a total of £14M from the BBSRC as part of their strategic Longer Larger (sLoLa) grants call which aims to drive forward discovery research into fundamental biology. The grant will also fund five post-doctoral posts over the funding period.
