DescriptionRob Ford, professor of politics at Manchester university, pointed to a tension for the party between the significant slice of Tory voters now in the north and midlands, versus wealthier members who often live in the Conservative-held so-called “blue wall” seats in the south of the country.

“If I was to use the two walls that are so fashionable these days, the Conservative electorate has a very large red wall element to it and the membership doesn’t,” he said.
