First exoplanet to be discovered from space using the microlensing method

Press/Media: Research

Description

Newspapers and specialist magazines reported on work led by my PhD student that used the NASA Kepler telescope to make the first discovery from space of an exoplanet using gravitational lensing (microlensing). The planet is one of the closest analogues to Jupiter in terms of its mass and orbital distance from its star. It is located 17,000 light years away, around twice as far as the next most distant planet found by Kepler.
