Dr. Gareth Edwards, CEO Cubic Motion, Professor Chris Taylor, FREng, OBE and Professor Tim Cootes have been awarded the  2015 Test of Time Award for their 1998 paper  “Interpreting Facial Images Using Active Appearance Models”  arising from work together at the University of Manchester. The award recognizes outstanding, influential papers from the past 15-20 years. Dr. Edwards collected the award on behalf of the authors on the evening of Wednesday 6th May at the Eleventh IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition (FG 2015) in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

This paper, which introduced the Active Appearance Model – a fast, robust method of interpreting images using a model-based approach – was the selection committee’s unanimous choice for the award.
