  • James Fildes

Press/Media: Research

Description

Dr James Fildes will be working at the centre, looking at repairing injured tissue in the heart and lungs. Up to 80 per cent of lungs that are donated for transplant are so damaged that they can’t be used. But his team has repaired the damage on donated lungs so that they are fit for transplantation.

He said: “Working directly with the pharmaceutical industry will hopefully mean our research can be translated into treatments at a much earlier stage. We believe this will have a real benefit for patients.”
