DescriptionEnvironmental racism is when communities populated with Black, Indigenous or people of colour are subject to a higher number of environmental hazards. Think toxic waste facilities, garbage dumps, processing plants and industrial animal feeding lots. All of these cause pollution, foul odours, and severe health risks, which drastically lower the quality of life for affected residents.

The prevailing narrative that plastic waste is just the result of overconsumption means individual actions are often touted as the best solutions. You know, things like saying no to a plastic bag, or a straw.
