The author of the last major UK study into the suicide deaths of armed forces veterans says new research into the issue could help the Ministry of Defence to monitor trends and ultimately save lives.

Professor Nav Kapur, the head of research at the Centre for Suicide Prevention at the University of Manchester, led a major study published in 2009 which found that young men leaving the UK Armed Forces were at increased risk of suicide.
