iNEWS: Obese mums less likely to breastfeed than other women

Press/Media: Research

Description

Obese women are less likely to breastfeed than those of average weight because psychological factors hold them back from doing so, according to a review of research papers.

Women with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 30 – the medical definition for obesity – are also more likely breastfeed for shorter durations than other women. Larger women tend to have social networks where friends and family members do not breastfed their babies, the analysis concluded.
