DescriptionThe international workshop held at High Meadows Environmental Institute at Princeton University on 14-16 September, 2022 focused on Indigenous knowledge co-production building upon a collaborative network between two Indigenous Arctic communities, Alaskan Yup’ik and Siberian Eveny funded by the US National Science Foundation grant “Community Adaptations and Knowledge Sharing in Alaska and Siberia: Utilizing Indigenous Research Methods”. The Indigenous knowledge sharing network had been developed and established in the course of the last decade under leadership of two Indigenous scholars, Dr Olga Ulturgasheva (Pathy Visiting Professor at Princeton and Associate Professor at the University of Manchester, UK) and Dr Stacy Rasmus (Research Professor and Director of the Centre for Alaska Native Health Research, UAF). The workshop extended its collaborative network to engage Native American youth, Alaskan Native and Indigenous Siberian community leaders in a multi-dimensional interactive process promoting symmetrical knowledge sharing and empowerment of Indigenous expertise. The event hosted members of Alaskan Yup’ik, Siberian Eveny and post-graduate students from Menominee and Oglala Sioux communities who shared valuable insights from indigenous practices of environmental guardianship.
