Description“In insecure times, people want to show they’re present,” says Cary Cooper, professor of organisational psychology at the University of Manchester. “But if we skip breaks we burn out and make mistakes. Taking a lunch break boosts productivity.”

So what’s the best way to maximise our precious time off?
We are legally entitled to a break of at least 20 minutes per six-hour shift and, says Cooper, “after three hours flat out, you shouldn’t just be taking 10 minutes to grab a sandwich. You need at least 45 minutes to clear your mind.”
