DescriptionYour resistance is low — but is it too low?

Every time we get a cold or flu our immune system responds. Part of that response is to train the body to remember that particular type of infection and respond more quickly the next time we meet it, by producing antibodies and cells to fight it, says Pam Vallely, professor of medical virology at the University of Manchester. “If the memory response is good enough we might not even get any symptoms the second or subsequent times.”

However, because during lockdown we’ve had reduced exposure to colds, “we may have a reduced memory response and so be more susceptible”, she says.
