DescriptionJamie Woodward, professor of physical geography at the University of Manchester, said: “Microplastics have been found on all continents and in some of the most remote parts of our world, so finding microplastics in Antarctic snow is not a surprise. I am only surprised when studies don’t find microplastics.

“Levels of contamination in these distant ecosystems will increase given the predicted increases in plastic waste over the coming decades. All of this underscores that plastic pollution is a global problem and human activity threatens even those parts of the world that were once considered pristine.”
