WIRED: A hidden void has been found inside Egypt's Great Pyramid

Press/Media: Expert comment

Description

The science may be robust but nobody has physically experienced the space. "We don't know everything about the pyramids," says Campbell Price, curator of Egypt and Sudan at the Manchester Museum.

Price argues the work from the Heritage Innovation Preservation Institute is "very interesting" but should also be treated with an air of caution. After studying the research paper he says the technology appears to be more advanced than in previous claims and Egyptologists should "keep an open mind" about what it means.

Price says that from where the void is located, above the Grand Gallery, it could have acted as a "functional space" to control the huge mass of stone above. "What it actually means for our understanding of the pyramids is not clear to me," he says.
