DEM: Folding 1. The relative effect of strong layers on folding during compression

    Dataset

    Description

Results from a Discrete Element Model. The media comprises ~24,000 elements representing a block of rock which contains 30 layers that are compressed horizontally. Layers coloured blue/grey are to help with visualization and relatively 'weak' by comparison with the 'stronger' yellow layers. Numbers on the figures indicate which layers are stronger counting up from the bottom. Individual files are shown along with comparison figures between selected experiments.
