Description
The Thorlabs Polarization-Sensitive OCT (PS-OCT) System provides high-resolution imaging while analyzing tissue birefringence and polarization properties. It captures structural and polarization contrast information simultaneously, making it ideal for biomedical research and material characterization. With advanced signal processing and rapid data acquisition, it delivers high-contrast, real-time imaging, operating similarly to ultrasound with the use of light waves instead of sound. Its flexible, modular design supports various scanning configurations, ensuring adaptability for different applications. The PS-OCT system is a powerful tool for studies requiring detailed structural and polarization-sensitive analysis.
More technical detail/ detailed description:
The system utilises spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) technology, which is a method which provides high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging based on low-coherence interferometry. In SD-OCT, a swept source laser is incident on the sample, from which the backscattered light from different depths is analysed using a detector which enables high-resolution imaging of internal structures in biological tissues and materials.
The instrument stands out because of its polarisation-sensitive imaging capabilities. A given Light wave will oscillate in different directions (polarizations), and certain materials can split light into two distinct polarisation states traveling at different speeds which is known as birefringence. The Telesto Series SD-OCT can detect these changes in birefringence in a rapid and non-destructive manner. By analysing the polarisation changes within a sample, the system can provide additional contrast and insight into structural properties that are not visible in standard intensity-based OCT imaging.
ThorImageOCT software provides real-time image acquisition, processing, and data visualisation. The software includes advanced features such as:
Live Display & Averaging which aids in reducing measurement noise and therefore enhances image quality.
3D Volume Rendering which enables the user to dissect volumetric datasets interactively.
Time-Series Imaging allows the operator to capture dynamic changes over time.
Capabilities/ key specifications:
Micron-scale resolution for detailed cross-sectional and volumetric imaging.
Single-Input Polarization-Sensitive OCT System with Unique Detector Unit for Simultaneous Acquisition of Both Orthogonal Polarizations at Full Imaging Speed. Enables measurement of birefringent properties for structural analysis.
High-Depth Imaging: 3.5 mm with 5.5 µm Axial Resolution in Air Base Units with A-Scan Rates up to 76 kHz Available 109 dB Max Sensitivity at 5.5 kHz Scan Rate 94 dB Max Sensitivity at 76 kHz Scan Rate.
