Aiming to create a risk model for radiation-associated malignant progression in familial NF2

Impact: Health and wellbeing

Public summary

Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) can cause tumours that sometimes require radiotherapy, but it is difficult to know which patients may face a higher risk of developing secondary tumours after treatment. This project will create a new model that provides personalised assessments of radiotherapy‑related risk, helping patients and clinicians make safer, better‑informed decisions.
The model will be released as a free, open‑source ImageJ plugin so that clinical teams can use it immediately. The project will also generate new bioinformatic tools that may support future research into the genetic factors that influence tumour behaviour.
