Programme of Public Engagement with Research and Researchers

    Impact: Society and culture

    Narrative

Programme of Public Engagement with Research and Researchers at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology has two main aims:

    1) To provide a wide range of engagement opportunities to allow as many researchers from as many different backgrounds as possible to discuss their work externally to the institute and wider research community

    2) To reach a broad, non-specialist audience for the dissemination and discussion of research outcomes and advancements from within the institute and beyond.

This is achieved through various contributions to a range of events including: National Science Festivals, Regional Exhibitions, Local Public Engagement, Lay Seminars / Talks, Open Days / Schools Engagement, Community Group Visits, Multilingual Science Outreach and Careers Events.

Between 12 and 15 contributions to engagement and outreach by the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology are arranged in a typical year. The variety and number of events allows both aims to be fulfilled, due to the assorted audience types and selection of opportunities that researchers can volunteer for.
