Narrative
'Pragmatics' are skills are focussed on using appropriate communication in social situations. This type of learning is typically acquired in the home and being deaf has the potential to disrupt it significantly. Deaf children can sometimes experience delays in the development of their pragmatic skills.Based on our research, we have created a resource to support pragmatic language development in deaf children. The resource was created with engagement from parents and teachers of deaf children and input from experts including audiologists, speech and language therapists.
In October 2023 the resource was made freely available for parents and professionals to download from the National Deaf Children's Society's website. It is the only resource in the UK that specifically supports this need for deaf children.
