We integrate the technical expertise of civil engineering with the leadership, social responsibility, and policy insight needed to make a global impact.
Our research addresses real-world challenges through innovation and collaboration with industry, driving inclusive economic growth. We focus on sustainable infrastructure, interdisciplinary approaches, and the adoption of advanced digital technologies to meet the evolving demands of the construction sector.
Our research is organised into four key themes:

- Geotechnical and Geo-environmental Engineering
- Structural Safety and Resilience
We are also home to Tyndall Manchester, part of the national Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research—a partnership of UK universities. This interdisciplinary research community unites engineers, natural scientists, social scientists and economists to deliver impactful, policy-relevant research on climate action and sustainability.
