Organisation profile

To a large extent our horizons have been limited by the materials we have to hand, from the Stone Age to the forthcoming Carbon Age. Consequently, for the UK to remain globally competitive, we need to be at the forefront of the invention and application of new materials systems.

The Henry Royce Institute is the UK’s national centre for advanced materials; bringing together a consortium of nine partners with the Hub based at The University of Manchester. The Royce aims to drive research and innovation in advanced materials acting as a bridge between world-leading academia and pioneering industry partners.

The institute draws on Manchester’s research strengths in 2D, Biomedical and Nuclear Materials as well as creating new resources for energy production, marine, aerospace and automotive sectors.
