The Manchester Institute of Innovation Research at the Alliance Manchester Business School is an international centre of excellence for the study of science, technology and innovation (STI) policy and management. The Institute shapes academic discourse in its designated research areas and maintains a research culture that is driven by curiosity, relevance and the highest level of research integrity.
The Institute informs UK, European and international science and innovation policy by engaging with key stakeholders and decision makers and offering both policy research and research for policy. It informs management thinking by engaging with the world of business and analysing its practices. As a University level Institute, MIoIR actively supports The University of Manchester through specific expertise in STI and STI policy studies.
The Institute’s research portfolio combines a strong share of self-defined, excellence-oriented projects, whilst maintaining a broad portfolio of diverse, national and international income sources. The breadth of activities and funders allows the Institute to maintain a diverse and vibrant range of research interests and opportunities to develop new intellectual directions and engagement. The Institute supports the education of the next generation of innovation scholars and practitioners worldwide, through our teaching, academic visitor programme and activities in professional development. Academics, supported by researchers, contribute to teaching within AMBS, the University College and other Faculties, which underpins the research undertaken across the Institute.
