Dr Amir Keshmiri is currently a Reader/Associate Professor in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and the Head of Business Engagement & Innovation (Theme of Innovative Healthcare) in the Faculty of Science & Engineering. He is the founder/co-founder of various companies and start-ups including CASP Technologies Limited (www.theCASP.com), Helical Ridge Graft (www.HeliRidgeGraft.com), Nanomaterial Synthesis (www.nano-syn.tech) and Affordable Health Technologies (www.AffordableHealthTech.com). Amir was also appointed a Visiting Professor at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in June 2019.
Amir received his BEng (2005), MSc (2006) and PhD (2010) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester. Following the completion of his PhD, Amir received the prestigious EPSRC Fellowship. Amir then joined industry where he was invited to lead a CFD team at AECOM, one of the largest engineering consultancy companies in the world. Amir joined academia as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and subsequently returned to the department of MACE at the University of Manchester.
Since 2010 Amir has secured and managed over £2m of funding (over 85% as Principal Investigator) to support his research which included grants from the EPSRC, Technology Strategy Board, IMechE, British Council, MRC, RAEng and several industries. His research in turbulence modelling has had a significant impact on the energy sector and his latest research in biomedical engineering has been considered as a breakthrough in the field of vascular prostheses (www.HeliRidgeGraft.com).
Amir leads the ManchesterCFD team, a dynamic CFD research and CFD consultancy group (www.ManchesterCFD.co.uk) and to date, has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, some of the recent examples include the ‘UK Research Council’s (EPSRC) Doctoral Prize’ in 2010, ‘Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Thomas Common Award’ in 2013, MMU’s ‘Rising Star’ award in 2014 and ‘Best Supervisor of the Year’, IMechE’s ‘Young Mechanical Engineer of the Year’ award in 2015, The Engineer/EPSRC's 'Collaborate to Innovate' award in 2017, RAEng's 'Frontiers of Innovation in Engineering' in 2018 and 'Making a Difference' award in 2019. In 2016, he was elected as the ‘Fellow' of IMechE, and in 2017, won the annual election to become a 'Council Member' of the IMechE for 3 years.
In addition, he is currently the Review Panel Member for British Council/Newton Funding, a Full College Member of the EPSRC, Associate Editor of Springer's Research on Biomed Eng. and a reviewer for several journals.
