Overview

Ada Wossink is professor in the Economics department at the University of Manchester. Previous appointments include professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at North Carolina State University in the USA and positions at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. She also worked as a researcher at Statistics Netherlands.   

Prof Wossink's research interests lie at the intersection of environmental, behavioural and public economics and she has published extensively in this area. She has been actively involved in over 25 externally funded multidisciplinary research assignments in past and current positions in Europe and the US and has coordinated several of such projects. 

She is participating in the NERC/ESRC funded project Biurbs: valuing biodiversity in multi-functional urban development and environments (2022-2025). She contributed to the NERC/AHRC/ESRC funded project GHIA: Green Infrastructure and the Health and Wellbeing Influences on an Aging Population. She also contributed to a consortium with Brunel and Birmingham Universities that won a £7 million grant to establish the Centre on Sustainable Use of Energy in Food Chains. She chaired the LOC and co-chaired the programme committee of the 2019 Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.  With colleagues in Philosophy and Psychology she partipated in the EU-FP7 project BIOMOT (Coordinated by Radboud University, Nijmegen) “BIOMOT: MOTivational strength of ecosystem services and alternative ways to express the value of BIOdiversity” (2011-2015). She served as a Professional Research Fellow of the Sustainable Consumption Institute at the University of Manchester Sept 2010 - Aug 2013. As the lead economist she contributed to three interdisciplinary projects for the US-Department of Agriculture on changes towards more sustainable farming practices.  She has served on the research review panels for: the U.S. National Institute of Health, the Research Councils of France, Finland, and Norway, and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

Research interests

Main research interest is in environmental policy, multiple objectives of land use, technology adoption and sustainability. Recent work focuses on ecosystem services, sustainable food consumption, the impact of regulatory differences on the location of polluting industries in Europe, environmental efficiency and policy uncertainty.

My work  (see Google Scholar profile) has been published in leading economics and interdisciplinary journals including Land Economics, Environmental & Resource Economics, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the European Review of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Environmental Management, Agricultural Systems, and Ecosystems & Environment.

My research is largely supported by externally sponsored grants (see page 11 in my C.V.) and occassionally I write a blog about it.
