Biography

I am a Wellcome Early Career Fellow in the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine. My research is a historical study of antibiotics and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) within a Nigerian (and by extension African) context. It explores the political and ethical intricacies that characterise the implementation of globally- and nationally-configured action plans and strategies by key agencies of government in Nigeria.

In general, I am interested in the history of health and healing in Africa. Since 2016, I have been interested in how communities and people on socio-economic margins in African states exercised agency over medical knowledge. I have always wanted to understand the local implications of medical ideas transmitted via imperial and international networks. My approach towards the study is interdisciplinary as it integrates theoretical and methodological insights from colonial history, medical history/anthropology, and African cultural studies to interrogate shifting constructions of African identities in colonial and postcolonial contexts.
